Chalsani is expected to join the Delhi-based company by the end of this month
The former chief executive officer of Reliance Power, Jayaram Prasad Chalsani, is all set to take over as the group chief executive officer of Punj Lloyd. Chalsani is expected to join the Delhi-based company by the end of this month, and would be re-locating to Gurgaon.
Chalsani, who quit Reliance Power in September 2013, will also be a director on the board of infrastructure company Punj Lloyd. He was not available for comments. The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) major, is also present in the infrastructure development space, albeit in a small way. Punj Lloyd, which did not have a reigning chief executive, too was not available for comments.
The 52-year-old was on a vacation in the United States for the last two months. Unlike, earlier expected, he did not go on become an enterpreneur. He had an eighteen-year-old stint with the Ambanis, where he worked for both the undivided Reliance Industries as well as at two companies of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group ie, Reliance Energy (now Reliance Infrastructure) and Reliance Power. He became the chief executive officer of Reliance Power in 2008.
Hailing from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, Chalasani is an engineering graduate from Regional Engineering College in Nagpur. He started his career in with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
This would be the first time that Chalsani would work for a company which has diverse interests in infrastructure including equipment manufacturing as well. Added to that Punj Lloyd also has most of its projects in international locations, especially in the Middle East.
