After three days of competition, champions were crowned in 13 different age divisions on last Saturday, seven in the boys’ field and six in the girls’ field, of the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship.
Playing at nine different courses in the area, the tournament brought more than 1,200 players from 39 countries to Moore County for the seventh consecutive year
.
The world championship had its share of highlights, starting with the opening ceremony that featured the parade of nations held in Pinehurst last Tuesday.
Boys 11 division:
Guang Shi Chen of Shenzhen, China, refused to let his foot off the gas at Talamore Golf Resort, firing a final-round 5-under-par 67 to post a tournament total of 17-under-par 199 to win the boys 11 division.
The boys 11 division played Talamore Golf Resort at 5,522 yards.
For the tournament, Chen recorded a remarkable 20 birdies and only three bogeys. He used his length off the tee to his advantage, as he birdied 12 of the 14 par-4s and par-5s during his three rounds. Bo Peng of Nan Jing, China, had an outstanding tournament of his own, finishing at 10-under-par 206, but was seven strokes behind Chen. Aaron Chen and Vivek Vasireddy, both of Fremont, Calif., tied for third place.
