Krish Ramineni's Fireflies.ai raises ₹100 Cr in Series A funding

  BENGALURU: Enterprise voice-assistant provider Fireflies.ai on Monday said it has raised Rs100 crore as a part of its Series A funding round, led by Khosla Ventures, to fuel its next phase of growth. Early-stage venture capital firm Canaan Partners also participated in the round. The company plans to use the fresh capital to expand its team and actively hire across functions of engineering, customer engagement and marketing. The startup will also use the investment to scale up its core engineering efforts to support customer demand, it said. With this fundraise, Fireflies has raised close to Rs135 crore since its inception in 2016. The company had raised Rs35 crore in 2019, led by Canaan Partners. It is also backed by current and former executives of Slack, Salesforce, Dropbox, Hopin, and Facebook. How a college student's start-up blossomed into a fine jewelry phenomenon

Shilpa Yarlagadda started her business while in her dorm room at Harvard, and her company has blossomed into a fine jewelry phenomenon. Her jewelry has been worn on some very famous fingers, plus 50% of Yarlagadda's profits help fund other female entrepreneurs. Shilpa Yarlagadda, 24, is the cofounder of Shiffon, the fine jewelry brand that invests its proceeds back into female-funded businesses. In 2017, the friends with whom Yarlagadda had started Shiffon wanted to focus on their studies. So she soon recruited family friend  Shreya Chaganti , as Shiffon was making big growth moves, and fast. The business surged forward in bursts, starting almost before Yarlagadda had all the organizational aspects of her start-up ready. One such surge came after Yarlagadda persistently messaged Emma Watson's stylist,  Sarah Slutsky , on LinkedIn and by email, trying to get Watson to wear the pinkie ring in public. Ramki Gaddipati founded Zeta becomes 14th Indian unicorn this year

Banking tech startup  Zeta  has raised $260 million in a funding round led by  SoftBank  Vision Fund II at a valuation of $1.45 billion. In the process, it has become the latest Indian startup to join the coveted unicorn club. SoftBank has invested $250 million for 17% stake, while existing investor  Sodexo  has put in $10 million. The round could close at $300 million, a source told ET, as Zeta is in talks to raise another $40 million from a few other investors. Avendus Capital is the adviser to the transaction. The Bengaluru-based startup’s valuation has surged nearly five times from $300 million during its previous round in 2019. Zeta has become the fourteenth Indian startup to become a unicorn this year—joining Cred, Razorpay and Groww in the club—underscoring the growing demand among equity investors for growth-stage fintech companies in the country. Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli to lead Indian challenge at Women's Chess World Cup 2021

  Four Indian women chess stars have qualified for the FIDE Women's Chess World Cup to be held in Russia in the month of July 2021 The India challenge in Russia would be led by top Grand Masters Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli with International Masters Padmini Rout and Bhakti Kulkarni for company. The official list of qualified players was published by FIDE on Wednesday. While GM Humpy and GM Harika qualified on the basis of their high ratings, the duo of IM Rout and IM Kulkarni made it through on the basis of Asian continental quota. While, Koneru Humpy is the ranked world number 3 in women's standard chess, Harika Dronavalli is ranked 10 th . On the other hand, Bhakti Kulkarni and Padmini Rout are ranked number 67   and 92 respectively among women. The FIDE Women's Chess World Cup is expected to witness more than 106 players fight it out for the top prize. Rakesh Naidoo becomes First Police Superintendent of Indian origin

Rakesh Naidoo has become the first person of Indian origin to be appointed to the post of Superintendent of Police in New Zealand . Police Minister Poto Williams and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Maori, Pacific and Ethnic Services) Wallace Haumaha affixed the Superintendent epaulettes on Mr Naidoo symbolising larger responsibilities that would now rest on his shoulders.  The event was held in Parliament Buildings in Wellington last night (May 20, 2021), following a meeting of Ethnic Liaison Officers of the New Zealand Police. Mr Naidoo will continue his role in Ethnic Services at the New Zealand Police National Headquarters in Wellington. Chandra Mohan Kanneganti is the councillor for Goldenhill and Sandyford. An National Helath Services hero has been elected Stoke-on-Trent's first citizen. Councillor Chandra Kanneganti is the new lord mayor following today’s council vote. His deputy is Councillor Faisal Hussain, who represents Meir South. New Stoke-on-Trent lord mayor Chandra Kanneganti with wife Sai and son Yatin A Labour bid for Councillor Sheila Pitt to take the top role was defeated. Mr Kanneganti was born in India in 1975. He emigrated to the UK in 2002 to work as a doctor in the NHS. The Goldenhill and Sandyford member became a councillor in 2019. He is a senior partner at Goldenhill Medical Centre and also manages Middleport Medical Centre.

Shriya Yarlagadda from Michigan named U.S. Presidential Scholars Award

Michigan   National Geographic Bee winner. And now, a recipient of one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students. Grand Blanc senior Shriya Yarlagadda is one of 161 high school students in the country to receive the honor of U.S. Presidential Scholar, which recognizes the country’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. “That was an amazing honor,” Yarlagadda said. “I was so excited because I did not expect to be receiving a nomination at all.” The invite-only program takes students with the best test scores and exceptional talent in visual, creative and performing arts to honor students each year. Yarlagadda’s candidacy was a total surprise, she said. Yarlagadda is one of five Michigan high school students to receive the honor, according to a Thursday, May 12 U.S. Department of Education news release. Yarlagadda, 17, will soon graduate Summa Cum Laude from Grand Blanc High School as a member of the National Honor Society and will receive an AP Capstone diplom

Arun Kumar's native place is Mynenivari palem near Repalle, AP, India. Arun Mummalaneni (CON, Basingstoke North West) elected to HCC for the first time, and also he is the first Indian origin person elected to the Council.
