S R Balasubramaniam MP and former Union Minister



Shri S.R. Balasubramanyam born on 14 November 1938 in Sultanpet, Distt. Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) to S hri Ramabadra Naidu and Shrimati Rukmani Ammal. He did his B.A. (Hons.), B.L., M.A. Educated at Pachaiyappa’s College, Chennai, Madras Law College and University of Madras, Chennai

He was Member, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly 1989 - 91, 1991 - 96 and 2001 - 06 from Pongalur - Coimbatore, Leader, Congress Legislature Party and Leader of Opposition, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly 1991 -96,  Member, Eleventh Lok Sabha from Nilgiris constituancy,  Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Parliamentary Affairs 1996 - 98, June 1996- April 1997 and May 1997- March 1998, Leader, Tamil Maanila Congress Legislature Party 2001 - 02,  Leader, Congress Legislature Party 2002 - 06.

In June 2016 he was Elected to Rajya Sabha and June 2016 onwards he was the Deputy Leader, AIADMK Party in Rajya Sabha.

Undertook fast unto death against the Gudalur (Nilgiris) farmers’ eviction in 1981, was arrested and continued fast in Chennai jail for four days which influenced the Tamil Nadu Government to suspend the eviction of farmers; spearheaded many agitations; actively associated with many organisations working for the upliftment of the downtrodden; was President, Coimbatore Labour Union, President, National Slum dwellers Association; General Secretary, PCC, Tamil Nadu, 1980 - 82; Vice President, (i) PCC, Tamil Nadu, 1988 - 89 and (ii) All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation, Tamil Nadu, 1975 - 78; Chairman, Friends of Soviet Union, Tamil Nadu, 1986 - 89; Convenor, (i) Congress Forum for Socialist Action, Tamil Nadu, 1969 - 73, and (ii) District Youth Congress, 1967 - 68; General Secretary, District Congress Committee, 1968 - 72; was Member, (i) AICC, (ii) PCC and (iii) Executive Committee, PCC; Organiser, Congress Campaign Committee, District Coimbatore, 1976 - 77

Bollini Munuswamy Naidu: First Kamma Chief Minister of Composite Madras state

Bollini Munuswamy Naidu (b. 1885 - d. 1935) was the Chief Minister of Madras Presidency from October 27, 1930 to November 4, 1932. Munuswamy Naidu was born in Velanjeri near Tiruttani of Tamilnadu  in 1885 in a family of agriculturists. He studied law and worked as a lawyer and businessman. He was one of the early members of the Justice Party. On the death of the Raja of Panagal in 1928, Munuswamy Naidu was appointed President of the Justice Party. Munuswamy Naidu served as the President of the Justice Party from 1928 to 1932. Under his leadership, the Justice Party won the 1930 Madras Assembly elections and Munuswamy Naidu served as Chief Minister or Premier from 1930 to 1932. During Naidu's tenure, Madras was engulfed in a financial crisis arising out of the Great Depression. The Great Musunuri Nayaks

                       Musunuri Kaapaaneedu The Musunuri Nayaks were Kamma warrior chieftains in the Kakatiya army, who regained Andhradesa in 1326 from the Delhi Sultanate in the aftermath of the Kakatiya defeat.
