At only 17 years old, Meghana Bollimpalli has been named to
the 30 Under 30 list as well as winning the 2018 Intel Foundation Young
Scientist award.
Bollimpalli won the award for her work developing an
inexpensive alternative to making electrodes, which are used in super-capacitors. She found that combining molasses, tea powder and tannin with
a small amount of phosphorous and nitrogen could perform similar to an
electrode made with platinum.
She told us in May that her mixture would cost roughly under
$1.
"I am so pleased to be joining such an amazing network
of individuals who inspire me and push me to be the best I can be
everyday," she said in a Facebook post.
She also thanked her family, friends and teachers for
helping motivate her.
