Indian-American Hari Kondabolu was honored at the 10th annual GQ India Men of the Year awards this year. These awards aim to celebrate both men and women that “shape the cultural landscape” of the moment.
In 2017, Hari Kondabolu described himself as a “comedian going after the biggest comedy of all time” as he took on The Simpsons with his controversial 90-minute TruTV documentary The Problem with Apu. This year, he’s gone all out after everything that’s teeming on the other side of reason in Trump’s America with his Netflix show Warn your Relatives.
Stand-up comic, filmmaker, and podcast host Kondabolu has been vocal about representation and importance of diversity. Kondabolu uses comedy to tackle important topics like race, inequality, identity and the LGBTQ community. He took home the award for the Comedian of the Year. As expected, the comic had the crowd in splits during his speech.
This year’s Men of the Year award also marks the 10th anniversary of GQ‘s presence in India. The awards were held in association with Chivas Studios.
