Three Indian American students— Shilpa Darivemula of Union College in Schenectady, New York; Srikar Gullapalli of Colgate University, Hamilton, New York; and Nitya Rao of Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina — were named last month as Watson Fellows, each of whom will receive a stipend of $25,000 for the fellowship year.
Through “Government for the People: Local Accountability Structures and Political Dialogue,” Gullapalli wishes to understand local political accountability structures and local citizen-government relationships at the city and community level in drastically different governance contexts since the local level is most important for public welfare and where most corruption and inefficiency occurs.
