Mr L.G. Ramamurthi, Chairman emeritus of Coimbatore-based Sara Elgi group of companies connected with textile and engineering, passed away this afternoon after a brief illness. Mr Ramamurthi, 76, is survived by his son, Mr Sumanth Ramamurthi, managing director of Super Spinning Mills Ltd, and two daughters. Sara Elgi group under the leadership of Mr Ramamurthi remained well-diversified and took new business initiatives. Among the new ventures it undertook include building products development and contract farming of cotton with thrust on seed R and D. Belonging to the illustrious LRG Naidu family (founder of the Elgi group), Mr Ramamurthi was associated with various public service and sport activities and he has also been on the board of Elgi Equipments Ltd and Magna Electro Castings Ltd.
