Shiv Nadar steps down as HCL Tech MD, Bandi Vijayakumar to take over

Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL Technologies Ltd, and its chief strategy officer, has tendered his resignation as managing director , as well as a director, with effect from 19 July, on completing 76 years of age. Nadar will, however, continue to guide the company in the capacity of chairman emeritus and strategic adviser to the board for five years, the company said.

Bandi C. Vijayakumar, president and chief executive officer, has been appointed as the managing director for five years. 

He is currently the Chairman of World Economic Forum's IT Governor's Community as well as a Board Member of the US-India Business Council.

Bandi Vijay was born in Coimbatore in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. He is currently based out of New York City in the United States. 

Vijayakumar joined HCL Technologies in 1994 in the founding startup team of Comnet as a senior technical engineer. Over the years, he held a wide portfolio of responsibilities in HCL across sales, operations and service delivery. He was appointed the company's chief operating officer in July 2016 and later that year in Oct 2016, promoted to be the CEO, succeeding Anant Gupta

Vijay's leadership style was commended in the business book ‘Blueprint to a billion: 7 essentials to achieve exponential growth’ as part of a case-study on HCL Technologies authored by David G.Thomson. Vijay holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in electrical & electronics engineering from PSG College of TechnologyTamil Nadu, India.

A road named after Veerasamy Naidu in Singapore

Veerasamy Road - Little India/ Singapore Veerasamy Road was renamed twice in its history; it was originally called Inche Lane, and was renamed Jalan Tambah in 1910. In 1927, the road was renamed again as Veerasamy Road, in honour of Dr N. Veerasamy Naidu (1865-1926), one of Singapore’s first Indian doctors and a leader in the local Indian community. Dr N Veerasamy Naidu was born in 1864. He was the son of Narayanasamy Naidu and Ramanuja Ammal. He learned Tamil from the age of four from his grandfather, Kuppusamy Naidu. He studied English at the Raffles School in Singapore and first worked at the lawyer’s office of Mr Cook. AI startup Blaize raises $71 million

  Artificial intelligence computing company Blaize Inc has raised $71 million from investors including Temasek and Franklin Templeton, according to people familiar with the matter. The El Dorado Hills, California-based company is also in early-stage talks with special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) about a potential deal that would take it public, the sources added. Blaize previously raised $65 million in 2018, at a valuation of about $370 million from investors including Denso, Temasek, GGV Capital, and Daimler. The new series D round of funding will be primarily used to scale out the business and products development. Details on Blaize's latest valuation were not immediately available. Blaize offers computing solutions in automotive, mobility, smart retail, security, industrial and metro market sectors. Outplay gets $7.3-million Series A funding from Sequoia India

Bengaluru:   Outplay  has raised $7.3 million from Sequoia Capital India in its Series A round, as the sales engagement platform looks to ride the tailwind of digitisation of outbound sales due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Founded in 2018 and launched in the subsequent year by twin brothers Ram and Laxman Papineni, Outplay helps automate and personalise sales calls and brings conversations from multiple channels such as email, phone, SMS, LinkedIn, Twitter and chat into a single interface. “Outbound sales teams are truly the dark horse of the sales organisation—the targets are high, but the methods aren’t scientific,” Outplay’s chief executive officer  Laxman Papineni  said. “Outplay is committed to making outbound outreach data-driven, so that sales teams are talking only to the warmest prospects at any given point across multiple channels, optimising time and resources.” The startup has seen its revenue grow four times and team size treble in the four months since  it raised $2 million
