Dorsami Naidu (Grand parents migrated to Fiji from Chittor District, AP, India) As a serving NFP Member of Parliament 1992-1999, when he was motivated to enter politics after the 1987 coup. His main concerns are for the rule of law and democracy and a more representative parliament.Dorsami Naidu, is from a Martintar canefarming family, fifth of nine children, who became a legal practitioner in Nadi.
He went to primary school in Nadi and Lautoka and then to Shri Vivekananda High School before going on to the University of the South Pacific and the University of Canterbury in NZ for a lifetime career in law.He served as an official of the TISI Sangam of Fiji from 1986 onwards, becoming National President of Sangam and Chairman of the Sangam Institute of Technology(SIT) which started the Sangam School of Nursing in Labasa in 2005. Naidu was elected President of the Fiji Law Society on 28 September 2008, he was hold this position until 14 June 2014.
He also served as Trustee for Nadi Special School, Trustee for Nacovi Sangam Temple in Nadi, and was Charter President of the Lions Club of Nadi.Dorsami Naidu’s particular concerns are for the rule of law,human rights, poverty alleviation, addressing corruption, employment creation, youth and women’s issues and support for good governance.He is standing for election to support democracy and better governance and to bring about greater understanding amongst ethnic,religious and linguistic sections within the nation.
He feels NFP is the party with credibility and which had great leaders of the past who showed great leadership skills which we can emulate.
In Parliament he wants to win the confidence of the people through debate, to see issues with clarity, and to convince and influence those on the opposite side about good governance. Dorsami Naidu’s believes his experience, understanding of history and the different cultures and values would make him a good leader in Parliament. He has credibility, support for democracy and the rule of law, and concern for people’s rights. The main thing he seeks in Parliament is a more representative parliament, greater freedom of expression and assembly, a better constitution, and resolution of problems through dialogue ,negotiation and consultation.
