Dr Gurram Ramprakash from Vijayawada city secured All-India
first rank in Surgical Gastroenterology in JIPMER Super Specialty Entrance
Test.
After completing MBBS from Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Medical
College, he did his MS from Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam where he
bagged a gold medal and also the best student of the University award.
“I come from a rural background and I have grown up seeing
the vast gap in accessibility to medical services to the different sections of
the society. My effort will be towards filling this gap,” said Dr. Ram Prakash,
at a press conference here on Sunday.
“My father is a farmer and mother a teacher. I am a son of
this soil and intend to come back to serve the local people. The focus would be
on extending medical care to the common man in the best possible way,” he said.
He said he could achieve the top rank with the encouragement
given by Dr. N. Tirumala Rao of city-based Harini Hospital, where Mr. Ram
Prakash works as a general surgeon.
Dr. Tirumala Rao said the young doctor’s winning-spree
started with securing 1000th rank in EAMCET. He then secured top ranks in a
series of PG CET (Common entrance test) in medicine. “Dr. Ram Prakash is the
third youngest person in JIPMER’s (Super-speciality) history to secure this
rank among 2,600 candidates who took the test,” he said.
