MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -Two students from Alabama are among those who will move on to the national finalists round in the Wendy's High School Heisman program which recognizes senior student-athletes' hard work and dedication in athletics, academics and community leadership.
Yasanka Chalasani of James Clemons High School in Madison and Rachael Yergensen of St. James School in Montgomerywere the state's two finalist winners. They will now compete against winners from other regions across the country for a chance to be named one of 12 National Finalists in Wendy's annual search for the nation's top scholar-athletes.
The 12 will then go on to compete for the National Winner title in New York City on December 12.
National Finalists will be featured during a televised ceremony on ESPN® networks and will each receive a gold medal and a $2,000 award for their high schools. One male and one female National Winner will each receive a crystal Wendy's High School Heisman trophy, a $500 Wendy's gift card and an additional donation from Wendy's in the amount of $8,000 to their respective high school.
The winners will also be recognized during the collegiate Heisman Trophy announcement on December 13, 2014.
