Padma Shri Dr.G. Bakthavathsalam, Pioneer of Coimbatore


Padma Shri Dr.Namburi.G. Bakthavathsalam is the Chairman and Managing Trustee of Dharmaveera K Govindaswamy Naidu Medical Trust, which runs the K.G. Hospital in CoimbatoreIndia. He was awarded a Padma Shri in 2005.Born on April 5, 1942 at Annur village of Coimbatore district and graduated (MBBS - 1964) from Madras Medical College, and also having obtained an MS from the same college, he had his post graduate training in Surgery in Mount Sinai Hospital, Chicago (USA).


KG Hospital

On the clarion call given by his father, Dharmaveera K. Govindaswamy Naidu, to serve the poor countrymen in the field of healthcare, he returned to India in the year 1974 to set up KG Hospital. Initially, ten beds were put up. It has now grown into a 550-bedded multi and super speciality and post graduate medical center - a "Centre of Excellence" recognized in India and abroad and this hospital has the pride of treating over 4 million patients.

Humanitarian Efforts

He established the K.G. Eye Hospital, where 85,000 free cataract surgeries have been done for the poor. He has conducted 200 free heart surgeries, 1,500 dialysis free of cost, screened over 300,000 people free of cost for blood pressure and saved 35,000 accident victims.
He provided free treatment to 250 bomb blast victims at Coimbatore in 1998 and contributed substantially for the victims of the Kargil War, Gujarat earthquake and the recent tsunami. The nursing college created by him has produced thousands of nurses who are employed overseas.

On Nov 10, 2009, he received the D.Sc. (honoris causa) from the MGR Medical University, Tamil Nadu, India. In 2005, He received the Padma Shri (for his work in medicine) from the then President of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. He received Dr. B.C. Roy Award in 1984 from Prime Minister Rajiv GandhiSeva Ratna Award in 1999 from the Centenarian TrustVaidya Ratna Award in 2001 from Sri Adichunchanagiri Maha Samsthana MathSwamy Seva Puraskaram Award, Life Time Achievement Award from Salem Gastro Centre and “The Jewel of Coimbatore Award” in 2005.

A road named after Veerasamy Naidu in Singapore

Veerasamy Road - Little India/ Singapore Veerasamy Road was renamed twice in its history; it was originally called Inche Lane, and was renamed Jalan Tambah in 1910. In 1927, the road was renamed again as Veerasamy Road, in honour of Dr N. Veerasamy Naidu (1865-1926), one of Singapore’s first Indian doctors and a leader in the local Indian community. Dr N Veerasamy Naidu was born in 1864. He was the son of Narayanasamy Naidu and Ramanuja Ammal. He learned Tamil from the age of four from his grandfather, Kuppusamy Naidu. He studied English at the Raffles School in Singapore and first worked at the lawyer’s office of Mr Cook. L.G. Varadarajulu founder of ELGI Group (Asia's largest manufacturer of air compressors)

L.G. Varadarajulu (December 15, 1928 - May 19, 2010) was born to legendary businessman LRG Naidu and Ranganayakiammal on December 15, 1928 in Kalangal. Devi Seafoods planning Rs1,000 crore IPO

The proposed Devi Seafoods IPO is likely to be a mix of primary and secondary share sale, and the company will soon appoint a banker to manage the share sale Devi Seafoods Ltd, one of the largest seafood exporters from India, is in the process of hiring investment banks for a planned initial public offering (IPO). Based in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Devi Seafoods is a supplier of frozen shrimps with its own processing plant, aquaculture farms and shrimp hatchery. “Devi Seafoods has been in talks with investment banks for the last few weeks for working on its IPO. The company plans to raise up to Rs1,000 crore through the proposed IPO, which they are eyeing in 2018. They will be soon appointing a banker syndicate to start work on the deal,” said one of the people cited above, requesting anonymity as he is not authorized to speak to reporters. Munu Adhi (Born 4 September 1926, Died 21 June 2005) born at Tambaram near Chennai - Tamilnadu.  Mr Munu Adhi started his political career as a member of the Socialist Party in 1945. He joined the DMK in 1953 and was elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly for four consecutive terms, in 1962, 1965, 1971 and 1977.  Having begun his political career with the DMK, the four-time Member of the Legislative Assembly, switched his loyalty to the AIADMK in 1972 when M G Ramachandran founded the party, after breaking away from the DMK.  For the fourth time, he was elected to the state Assembly in 1977 when the AIADMK, headed by MGR, came to power for the first time and Munu Adhi was made the Speaker of the Assembly. Challapalli Fort - History of Yarlagadda Zamindars

Challapalli is a village in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located in Challapalli mandal of Machilipatnam revenue division. The Rajah of Challapalli, Srimanthu Raja Yaralagadda Ankineedu Prasad Bahadur Garu built this Palace in the early 18th centaury. Then onwards Challapalli became the capital for the Devarkota Estate and the town developed around the palace. It remains as a great example of Andhra architecture to this very day. .
