Padmasri Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad was appointed as the Founder Director of the Indian Cultural Centre at Toronto in Canada. The appointment order was issued by the ICCR Chairman Karan Singh.
It may be noted here that he is the first time that a Telugu scholar and non-IFS man was made founder Director of a ICC, while the two personalities Girish Karnad and Indranath Choudary were made in the past. The tenure is for three years. Yarlagadda, who is a former Andhra University professor and presently the Chairman of the AP Hindi Academy, Official Language Committee of UGC AND Lok Nayak Foundation and former VC of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language was accorded diplomatic rank of Counsellor with representational grand the pay and allowances that go with it to him and his family.
