Badminton: Picture perfect day for Plainfield East’s Tatineni

Chicago, IL: It was a clean sweep in every aspect for Lakshmi Tatineni.

The Plainfield East senior won all seven of her matches at the Joliet Central Birds of Steel Tournament on Saturday to capture the No. 1 Singles crown for the third consecutive year.

Tatineni, considered one of the top players in the state, also won the JV tournament as a freshman.

“It was really nerve-racking this morning because I won it so many times,” Tatineni said. “But after the first game, I started getting back into it, calming down.”

Tatineni won all of her matches in two sets and topped Metea Valley’s Michelle Wang (6-1 on the day) 22-20, 21-19 in a back-and-forth unofficial championship match that coincidentally found itself as the pair’s last match of the day.

“She was really good, but I was kind of stubborn,” Tatineni said. “I just kept saying, ‘finish this, no third game’, because I’m exhausted.”

Hero Rajasekhar to join politics

HYDERABAD: Movie actor Rajasekhar on Monday chose his birthday to reveal that ever since he was a child he was fascinated by politics. At a media gathering at the Film Nagar Cultural Club on his birthday, he said, “When the time comes, I will announce which political party I will join and the exact date. I will also explain why I preferred a particular party over others.” Referring to criticism that he was not a Telugu at all, Dr. Rajasekhar said that while his father hailed from Chittoor district, his mother Andalu was from Guntur. “We are very much Telugu. We just went to Tamil Nadu for a while and have now come back. That’s all,” he said. He said his father was a Sub-Inspector of Police in Guntur district when his marriage with Andalu was arranged. The Great Mikkilineni and Pemmasani Rulers of Gandikota

Gandikota is a small village on the right bank of the river Pennar, 15 km from Jammalamadugu in Kadapa district, Andhra Pradesh. Gandikota was one of the greatest forts of south India in its hay days and so were the kings who ruled the region. Years after its formation, Gandikota fort was ruled by the Mikkilineni dynasty of Bharadwaja gotra who belonged to a clan of Kamma lords. Kammas were kings belonging to the Solar, lunar and Haihaya clans of Kshatriyas and were said to be ferocious in nature. The kings of Gandikota were equally famous and said to be so powerful, that they could severe the heads of a horseman and the horse with a single stroke of the sword.
