What better way to spread environmental awareness than on a cycle? What could be motivating 10-year-old-Akshitha M, a Std. V student of Obul Reddy School, to cycle on Necklace Road carrying a slogan that reads “plant more trees”? Young Akshitha joined on the last leg of the 25 km “Cycling for Humanity” (CFH) ride, from JNTU, Kukatpally to Necklace Road, organised by Manavata. Manavata is a worldwide NGO founded in 1991 with the mission to create and promote a Healthy, Happy, Harmonious (3H) World. Towards this end Manavata organises rides for all age groups in different parts of the globe to inspire people to adopt simple living and care for the environment. With placards carrying messages on global warming, unemployment, corruption and drug addictions displayed on their cycles, participants pedalled with the purpose of educating people along the way. Dr.Patibandla Chandra Sekhara Rao: The Central government honoured three prominent Telugu people with Padma awards 2012 on the eve of Republic Day. While Dr Patibandla Chandrasekhara Rao, a judge at International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Germany, was awarded Padma Bhushan. Dr P Chandrasekhar Rao, popularly known as PC Rao, is an internationally recognized legal personality. At present, he is serving as a judge of International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea headquartered at Hamburg inGermany. Born in Krishna district in a farmer’s family, Rao did ML and PhD in International Law and specialization in Law of the Sea from Madras University. NEW YORK: The Wall Street Journal has named Indian-American journalist Raju Narisetti as Managing Editor of the publication's digital network. Narisetti is currently the Managing Editor for The Washington Post, where he oversees the company's digital content products, staff and strategy. Narisetti's appointment marks his return to the Journal, where he had first worked in 1994 as a reporter in Pittsburgh and most recently served as Editor of The Wall Street Journal Europe in 2006. At the Journal he will be in charge of the online platforms like the WSJ.com, SmartMoney.com and the Chinese, Japanese and German-language editions of WSJ.com. International Master Musunuri Lalith Babu (Elo 2484) (Vijayawada) clinched the final GM norm at the ongoing Hastings Grandmasters chess championship at London on Thursday thus becoming a Grandmaster, the 26 player from India. Nineteen-year-old Lalith defeated fellow- Indian GM Deep Sengupta in the eighth round to become the fourth GM from Andhra Pradesh — the other three being Pendyala Hari Krishna (Guntur), Koneru Humpy (Vijayawada) and Dronavalli Harika (Guntur). “The wait is over. It took some time for Lalith to win the elusive final norm. Getting it in an alien land is special,” said Lalith's mother M. Padma.
