LVPEI opens 100th eye center in Vijaywada

L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) opened its 100th centre at Vijaywada marking the silver jubilee. Over the years, LVPEI has been steadily expanding on its facilities in keeping with is capacity-building strategy.The last month of May saw LVPEI launching ten primary eyecare centres, and one city centre bringing the total tally of its network to 100 locations, a LVPEI release said here today."I am delighted that LVPEI has touched a century of eye care facilities in the service of people," said Dr Gullapalli N Rao, chairman, L V Prasad eye Institute adding that "It is a great beginning in our silver jubilee year on June one, and it brings us closer to our mission of preventing avoidable blindness among our people." The launch of LVEPI's silver jubilee on June 1, 2011 saw a flurry of activities including the traditional lighting of the lamp by State Governor E S L Narasimhan and Vimala Narasimhan on 2nd June

Katragadda Aruna Miller -- a transportation engineer, Darnestown resident and mother of three -- became the newest member of the House of Delegates for District 15 Tuesday, after handily defeating Republican opponents. With all 39 precincts reporting in District 15, incumbents Kathleen Dumais and Brian Feldman took the most votes with 20.69 and 20.35 percent of the votes respectively. Aruna came in third with 18.80 percent of the votes, beating the most voted for Republican, Graham Scott, by more than 4 percent of the votes. Munu Adhi: Former Speaker Tamilnadu Assembly and 4 times MLA

Munu Adhi (Born 4 September 1926, Died 21 June 2005) born at Tambaram near Chennai - Tamilnadu. Mr Munu Adhi started his political career as a member of the Socialist Party in 1945. He joined the DMK in 1953 and was elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly for four consecutive terms, in 1962, 1965, 1971 and 1977. Having begun his political career with the DMK, the four-time Member of the Legislative Assembly, switched his loyalty to the AIADMK in 1972 when M G Ramachandran founded the party, after breaking away from the DMK. For the fourth time, he was elected to the state Assembly in 1977 when the AIADMK, headed by MGR, came to power for the first time and Munu Adhi was made the Speaker of the Assembly.
