Prof BVR Chowdari honoured with "Business Event Ambassador" award at Singapore Experience Awards 2010
Prof Bobba Venkateswara Rao Chowdari from the NUS Department of Physics was named the "Business Event Ambassador" at the prestigious Singapore Experience Awards 2010 organised by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB). Prof Chowdari is the President of the Materials Research Society of Singapore (MRS-S), a post he has held for 11 years.
On his accolade, Prof Chowdari said, "The win is a glowing tribute to the MRS-S management team and the International Conference on Materials for Advanced Technologies Chairs/Co-Chairs, both past and present who have always been the cornerstone behind every success story of MRS-S. It is always a pleasure to see how international scientists are impressed with Singapore as a hub for high quality research."
The award citation highlighted Prof Chowdari's successful promotion of Singapore as a choice business events destination through the organisation of various international conferences in his capacity as head of MRS-S and the Asian Society for Solid State Ionics. He has initiated and organised multiple association events in Singapore, most notably the biennial ICMAT since 2001. To-date, ICMAT has attracted some 10,000 delegates which included 16 Nobel Laureates. ICMAT 2009 collected the "Association Conference of the Year" award under the Events category.
The Singapore Experience Awards event recognises individuals and organisations who have delivered the best holistic customer experience - one that packages quality product and service delivery to create a distinctive and compelling experience. Recipients come from various sectors which include hospitality, retail, dining, entertainment, attractions, business travel and MICE, education and healthcare.
