TV personality and model Shashi Naidu does not regard herself as a sex symbol, but she has secured a spot in the top 20 of the South African leg of the FHM Top 100 Sexiest Women in the World.
The 27-year-old former Port Elizabeth beauty, who has her own fan club on the Facebook website, said she was “very surprised” to learn that South Africans regarded her as the 14th sexiest woman in the world.
Naidoo’s TV exposure includes roles in Backstage and Generations. She has also presented e.tv’s 20something and, more recently, the Edgars Music Series on SABC1.
She is at present playing Sureshni Patel in M-Net’s Egoli.
“It’s the first time I have been included on the FHM list. It’s very cool,” she said. “The thing is I don’t regard myself as a sex symbol and I don’t think my father would want me to look at myself as one either.”
She said that being regarded as a sexy woman was “very subjective”.
“Someone’s number 14 could another person’s number 1400. But I think it is about the way a woman carries herself.
“This year there seems to be a lot more hype around the FHM poll. I received messages from people via Facebook saying they were going to vote for me. I thought I would make the top 100 but not the top 20.”
Naidoo, who also owns a Gauteng modelling agency, Alushi Management, has taken part in several modelling shoots and TV commercials.
“She’s this corporate vixen. I really like the character and I will be on for another three months. I am taking my TV jobs as they come.”
