Courage Center Honors Manasa Kanneganti With EMPOWER Scholarship

MINNEAPOLIS, June 28/PRNewswire/ -- On June 18, Courage Center honoredfour young people with an EMPOWER scholarship. Established in 1994, the EMPOWER scholarship encourages and supports ethnically diverse students to pursue a career in the medical or rehabilitation field. Manasa Kanneganti, Woodbury, Minn., a 2008 graduate of the Math and Science Academy in Woodbury. She plans to attend Boston University medicalschool with a goal of becoming a neurosurgeon. She would like to help peoplewith spinal cord injuries and brain injuries. She volunteered more than 400hours in her community, including 200 hours at Woodwinds Health Campus.

Lanco plans wind energy foray

The Rs 3, 336-crore diversified Lanco Group has firmed up its plans to foray into wind energy, with an initial investment of nearly Rs 500 crore. The Hyderabad-based power and infrastructure major is planning to set up a wind turbine manufacturing unit in Puducherry. It has also set its eyes to establish wind farms in India, the US and Europe. Mr Lagadapati Madhusudhana Rao, Chairman of the Group , said the technology aspects would be worked out in technical collaboration from German companies. The group is targeting a commercial launch of wind energy by September 2009. “Our target is to establish a total of 1,000 MW installed capacity”, Mr Rao said. Small windmills, with installed capacity of 2 MW, and wind farms across different locations, especially in Europe and US, are being explored, he added. G. D. Naidu (Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu) was an Indian Inventor and engineer who is sometimes referred as the Edison of India. He is credited in manufacturing the first electric motor in India. His contributions were primarily industrial and span the fields of electrical, mechanical, agricultural (Hybrid cultivation) and automobile engineering. First of all he is a scientist but he studied up to only third standard. Naidu was born on March 23rd , 1893 , in Kalangal, near Coimbatore. He began his transport business in 1920 , with the purchase of a passenger auto-coach. He drove it for the service between Pollachi and Palani. June 25, Encouraging women's education has been a goal of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) since its beginning, and the Freehold Area Branch every year recognizes the senior girl from each of the six schools in the Freehold Regional High School District who has the highest grade-point average at the end of the third marking period. The girls were given certificates and monetary awards and good wishes for the future. A resident of Marlboro, Anisha Atluri has been very active at Marlboro High School. She has served as president of the Future Business Leaders of America and the French Club. She has enjoyed participating in academically oriented competitions - the math and science leagues and the Consumer Bowl. Sentini Bio sets up corn-based ethanol plant in AP

Hyderabad, Jun 23: Sentini Bioproducts Pvt Ltd, promoted by the Rs 450-crore Sentini group of companies (Chairman, Tipirneni Seshagiri Rao) has set up a corn-based ethanol plant at Gandepalli village, Krishna district with a capacity of 45,000 kilolitres per annum of ethanol and industrial alcohol. The plant is being built at a cost of Rs 130 crore and is expected to provide direct employment to 350 persons and indirect employment to over 1,000 persons. The technology is obtained from world leaders in ethanol technology such as Cemcorp Ltd, Canada along with their Indian partner and collaborator, KBK Chem-Engineering Private Ltd, Pune. The company has also sourced other technology support and services from Corn Plus, US, which has extensive experience of and operating corn-based ethanol and alcohol plants world over. Naturol begins biodiesel exports from Kakinada

The first-ever shipment of bio-diesel from India is set to leave from the Kakinada Deep Water Port in the early hours of Tuesday. Naturol Bio-Energy Limited is exporting 9,000 tonnes of bio-diesel to European countries, particularly the Netherlands. Naturol plans to export 100,000 tonne bio-diesel a year and is, therefore, targeting to export 10,000 tonnes once in six weeks from the deep water port. The company has set up a bio-energy plant at Tammavaram village in the Vakalapudi Industrial Park, 10 km from Kakinada, on 30 acres at a cost of Rs 140 crore. The plant has a capacity to produce 100,000 tonnes of biodiesel a year. It is growing jatropha on 5,000 acres in Mallisala village in Jaggampet mandal in East Godavari district and also in Vikarabad in Telangana. Meanwhile, the company has signed MoUs with Singapore-based companies like Agritrade Pte Limited and Willmar Pte Limited to import crude palm oil from Malaysia and Indonesia to produce bio-diesel.
