Vizag alloy wheels unit invests $140 million in Bahrain

Vizag based entrepreneur Shekhar Movva belonging to Synergies Castings Ltd (SCL) will invest $140 million in a world-class aluminium alloy wheels firm in Bahrain. The SCL will invest the amount in two phases with the majority being held by Synergies. The joint venture with the Sovereign Wealth Fund ‘Mumtalakat,’ an investment arm of Kingdom of Bahrain, was signed in December last. The world-class plant with a capacity of 2.2 million wheels or equivalent of 30,000 tonne per year will be located within the precincts of ALBA. It will deploy state-of-art technology and service the global OEM market with particular emphasis on the US and Europe, Mr. Shekhar, president of the SCL, told, adding that their first overseas unit would be operational in 24 months. Chennupati Jagadish awarded Australia’s highest civilian honour

Australia has awarded its highest civilian honour, the Companion of the Order or Australia (AC) to India-origin scientist and professor Chennupati Jagadish. Professor Jagadish is currently the head of the Semiconductor Optoelectronics and Nanotechnology Group at the Australian National University. He was given the award in recognition for his service to physics and engineering. “I am humbled, honoured and grateful for this honour. This is a wonderful recognition for 25+ years of work my research group at the Australian National University (ANU) in the field of semiconductor optoelectronics and nanotechnology,” said Professor Jagadish upon receiving the award. “I am grateful to India providing me education and nurturing me from childhood to adulthood, and grateful to Australia for providing opportunities to contributes to science, in particular nanotechnology, and provide leadership to Australian and global science,” he added. Shreya Vemuri among 14 Indian American students - 2016 Intel Science Talent Search finalists

A total of 14 Indian American students have made it to the finals of the prestigious 2016 Intel Science Talent Search, which annually brings the country’s top 40 brightest high school seniors for a competition with a prize tag of $150,000, in Washington, DC. Of the 14 Indian Americans who would be coming in March for the prestigious science competition, five are from California: Sanath Devalapurkar, Anjini Karthik, Anin Sayana, Pranav Srinivas and Maya Varma. Two others are from Massachusetts: Yashaswini Makaram and Amol Punjabi. CVR Group to set up 2,780 MW thermal project in Andhra

The company will be setting up three units of 660 MW each and one of 800 MW, with an estimated investment of Rs 16,680 crore, near the coastal region of Bay of Bengal in the state, a statement issued here stated. Michelle Obama invites Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to State of the Union

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will be Michelle Obama's guest at Tuesday's State of the Union address. President Obama will use his final State of the Union to advocate for long-term plans that extend well beyond his presidency, according to the White House. One topic that Obama plans to discuss is ramping up STEM and computer science education, in an effort to place more Americans in high-paying technology jobs. Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30) has long pushed for more investment in technology education. Last year, Nadella announced that the company would spend $75 million on a new initiative to make computer science education more mainstream in American schools. Amara Raja Group to invest Rs.5000 cores in food processing

The Amara Raja Group ( Ramachandra Naidu Galla - Chairman ) and the Government of Andhra Pradesh recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for direct investment in Andhra Pradesh in the field of food processing besides electronics, energy storage, automobile components, IT & telecom components, and infrastructure and services.  This was announced at the 22nd CII Partnership Summit and 1stSunrise Andhra Pradesh Investment held in Visakhapatnam. Under the terms of the MoU, ARG and AP govt have committed to an investment of approximately Rs 5,000 crore, expected to generate approximately 10,000 new jobs over a period of 2-3 years directly, and 20,000 jobs indirectly. Koneru Prasad's Trimex inks MoUs worth Rs 2,500 crore with Andhra Pradesh

VISAKHAPATNAM: Heavy minerals miner Trimex ( Koneru Prasad - Chairman ) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Andhra Pradesh to develop mining projects at Bhavanapadu and Kalingapatnam in the state.  "The projects involve an estimated investment of Rs 2,500 crore and will generate 5,500 direct and indirect jobs," it said in a statement.  Bhavanapadu beach sand heavy minerals project will be executed by Trimex Heavy Minerals Pvt Ltd (THMPL), while the Kalingapatnam project will operate under the aegis of Trimex Ores Pvt Ltd (TOPL), it added.  The MoU was signed between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Trimex Group MD Pradeep Koneru at the first Sunrise AP Investment Meet being held here.  Koneru said the state government has given in-principle approval for the grant of mining lease for beach sand minerals like Ilmenite, Rutile, zircon, garnet and sillimanite over an extent of 17.88 square kilometres.  ...

Capgemini appoints Srinivas Kandula CEO for India

NEW DELHI: French IT services firm Capgemini has appointed Srinivas Kandula as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its India operations.  Kandula played a key role in the acquisition of Patni by IGATE in 2011, and of IGATE by Capgemini in 2015. He has also spearheaded both integration processes. Capgemini had bought IGATE in a USD 4 billion cash deal.  He replaces Aruna Jayanthi, who has moved to a global role in the Group. Kandula has also joined the Capgemini Group Executive Committee, the company said in a statement today.  "Since the acquisition of IGATE, India has become even more strategic to our global business roadmap.
