Mallineni Sriram Balaji Qualify for Main Draw of Wimbledon

Indian pair of Mallineni Sriram Balaji Vishnu Vardhan and succeeded in their effort and qualified for the main draw in the Wimbledon qualifiers. This will be a Grand Slam debut for Balaji, who hails from Coimbatore. He and his partner and fellow Indian Vishnu Vardhan booked their berth in the men's doubles draw following a 6-3, 6-4 win over top seeds Denys Molchanov and Igor Zelenay in the second round. Indian-American Katragadda Aruna Miller , seeking to enter the US House of Representatives from a Congressional seat in Maryland, has emerged as one of the top fundraisers, days ahead of the crucial Democratic primary. Hyderabad-born (Native of Ventrapagada - Krishna Dist, AP), 53, a civil engineer and a Maryland State Delegate, came to the US in 1972 when she was seven. She is vying to enter the House of Representatives -- the lower chamber of the US Congress -- from a Maryland suburb of Washington DC. The Senate is the upper chamber. Rithvik Bollipalli Signs on to Play at Utah State University

Utah State University and head men's tennis coach of the Aggies James Wilson June 4 announced that the team has added star Indian player Rithvik Chowdary Bollipalli to the squad. “Utah State University is amazing and the entire team and staff are very friendly, supportive and encouraging,” Bollipalli said in a statement. “I love nature and the location is beyond exception and it inspires me to start every new day with very positive energy. The university has all the amenities for a tennis player.” Bollipalli was the No. 1-ranked junior in all of India during U-12, U-14 and U-16 competition and has an International Tennis Federation ranking of 238 and a Universal Tennis Ranking of 12.72, the university said in a news release. And she did get a private audience from a proud North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper as he joined global life science leaders at the 2018 BIO International Convention in Boston. Nunna, North Carolina’s lone finalist among entrants from around the U.S., Canada and Germany, lives in the Charlotte suburb of Concord. Triple jumper Priyadarshini Suresh from Chennai grabbed the triple jump bronze medal with a personal best jump of 13.08m in her second attempt at the 18th Asian Junior Athletes held in Japan today. Representing India for the first time, at the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship held in Colombo in May 2018, Priyadarshini won gold and created a meet record. The icing on the cake was a ticket to the World U-20 Championships in Finland in July, since her timing was good enough to meet the qualifying mark. In 2016, she had won silver in the World School Games in Turkey. It was around this time that there was an attempted coup in Trabzon, a city on the Black Sea coast in northeast Turkey. 

Laasya Chigurupati bags second world record after mastering 85 piano songs aged FOUR

A FOUR-year-old  Laasya Chigurupat  has scooped her second world record in eight months after memorising 85 songs and playing them on the piano in just 35 minutes. Little Laasya Chigurupati (above) collected her world-beating gong in March this year after the young pre-schooler wowed audiences. Her first world record was claimed for playing 50 xylophone songs in under 25 minutes in October last year. Now she has mastered the same tunes on a mini piano by adding to her song collection — and she only started attending school last September. Proud parents Jithender Chigurupati, 34, and Aparna Chodagam, 33, who are both originally from India, became convinced there is no end to their daughter’s extraordinary abilities. Jithender said: ‘She has made us so proud, obviously. ‘She is very talented at memorising things and she’s especially very good with her general knowledge questions and Sanskrit poems which she started learning from the age of two and a half.

Raju Narisetti to join faculty of Columbia Journalism School

Andhra Pradesh born Raju Narisetti (S/o Narisetti Innayya), a digital media executive and editor, will join the faculty of Columbia Journalism School as Professor of Professional Practice. He will also serve as the new director of the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism. According to the university in New York, as a full-time faculty member, Narisetti will focus on topics such as business journalism, media entrepreneurship, and the business of journalism, in addition to overseeing business journalism fellowships in the country. As the Knight-Bagehot Director, he succeeds Terri Thompson, who directed the fellowship programme for the last 25 years and announced her retirement earlier this year. Abhijay Kodali finishes 3rd in the US National Spelling Bee

Abhijay Kodali , an 11-year-old from Flower Mound, Texas, came in third in the  Scripps National Spelling Bee  competition, which was held in Oxon Hill, Maryland. He misspelled the word “aalii.” Abhijay was the youngest of the final 16 finalists. He started competing only in March and joined the bee when he won a regional competition in Texas. “I’ve been to every bee along the way,” said Kim Martich, his teacher at Liberty Elementary School told Dallas News. “He has a passion for it.” The competition started Sunday with 515 spellers, the largest number of contestants in the 93 years of the national bee’s history. Last year, there were only 291 Abhijay's older sister, Ananya Kodali, was one of those blue-chip Dallas spellers who never made it to nationals - she lost twice at regionals to a speller who ended up finishing fifth on the Scripps stage.
