Personalised student assessment firm Xamcheck gets $1.8M funding from Aspada

Money to invested in backend technology and expanding operations. Secunderabad-based PI Policy Innovations Pvt Ltd, the company behind  Xamcheck , an independent third-party assessment, test design and feedback solution for K-12 schools in India, has secured Rs 11 crore ($1.8 million) in funding from Bangalore-based early stage investor Aspada Investment Company. “The vast majority of schools do not offer personalised learning or use feedback from exams to remedy learning deficiencies. With Aspada’s investment, we will continue to invest heavily in our backend technology, while also focusing on achieving significant scale in bringing Xamcheck to the thousands of underserved K-12 schools in India,” said Varun Kumar, co-founder of Xamcheck. Govt appoints senior IRS officer K V Chowdary as SIT Advisor in black money case

Senior IRS officer and outgoing CBDT Chairman Kosaraju Veeraiah Chowdary was on Friday appointed by the Government as an Advisor to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is probing black money cases. An expert on tax issues and financial investigations, Chowdary will take charge of the new post from tomorrow on his retirement after serving over three decades in the Income Tax cadre of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). The 1978-batch officer retired on Friday as the Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). "Both the SIT and government wanted the officer to continue as he has been dealing with blackmoney cases for a long time and has been a part of all the deliberations that have taken place on this subject in the last three years," a senior Finance Ministry official said. Sathvik Namburar of Duluth, Georgia have been named 2014 U.S. Presidential Scholars, a designation given to only 141 students across the country. Sathvik Namburar of Duluth, who attends Woodward Academy in College Park, was honored for academic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service and contributions to their school and community.  Two presidential scholars are selected from each state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and from U.S. families living abroad. An additional 15 scholars are chosen at-large, and there are 20 scholars selected for their accomplishments in the arts. More than 3,900 students qualified for selection based on their SAT and ACT scores as well as from nominations. Mallipeddi Praneetha won silver medal in the 16th Asian Roller Skating Championship

Malipeddi Praneeta  clinched the silver medal in the 16th Asian Roller Skating Championship held at Haining, China, last month. The second-year MBBS student, studying at the Andhra Medical College, won the silver in the Pair Dance Category (artistic) along with her Hyderabad-based partner Anup Kumar Yama, who is the current world champion in artistic skating. Praneeta however sounded a bit disappointed despite her success. "I was expecting to win a medal in the individual figure skating event, but I missed out and stood fourth. However, I'm happy that I did well in the pair event." Praneeta, who has been a national champion in figure skating for the last four years, both at the junior and senior levels, started skating at the Shivaji Park rink from 2005-2006 and since then has been rigorously trained by her coaches, P Satyanarayana, Chitti Babu and Mahesh.
