Saketh Myneni clinch gold and silver

Incheon, South Korea: Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni' s successful run at the Asian Games 2014 continued as the pair beat Chinese Taipei's Hsien Yin Peng and Hao Ching Chan 6-4, 6-3 to win India's sixth gold medal at Incheon. Sanam Singh could not add a second consecutive Asian Games gold medal to his kitty as he and  Saketh Myneni  settled for a silver after losing the hard-fought final in straight sets to Korea's Yongkyu Lim and Hyeon Chung, here today. The fifth seeded Indians lost the summit clash 5-7 6-7(2) in an hour and 29 minutes to the eighth seeded local favourites.

Venkat Jasti elected president for 66th IPC

Venkat Jasti from Suven Life Sciences have been elected as president of 66th IPC organising committee respectively. As the AIDCOC is planning to organise the 66th IPC at Hitex in Hyderabad from 23-25 January 2015, the confederation has elected Venkat Jasti, chairman and chief executive officer, of Suven Life Sciences as president of IPCA and Ravi Uday Bhaskar, Secretary General of AIDCOC as chairman and K. Raja Bhanu from APDCA as secretary of the Organising committee of 66th IPC.  Earlier, the 65th edition of IPC was held in December 2013 at Amity University near Noida in Delhi NCR region. This event had attracted more than 10000 delegates from academics, industry, hospital, regulatory bodies and pharmacy professional associations. Comic Hari Kondabolu Named NYU Artist-in-Residence

San Leandro, Calif. — New York University’s Asian/Pacific/American Institute has named Hari Kondabolu, a Brooklyn-based Indian American comic who has performed on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” among other shows, as its 2014-15 Artist-in-Residence.  “This residency at the A/P/A Institute at NYUwill give me just the space and time I need to publicly workshop ideas I’ve had for years, but have not had the opportunity to explore,” Indian American comic and activist Kondabolu said in a statement. “These ideas include material for my stand-up act; essays and stories for publications, radio, or live performances; live and video sketches; and short films.” Kondabolu has performed on “Conan,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” “John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show,” and his own half-hour “Comedy Central Presents” special. Mandava Holdings to raise over Rs 800 crore

Hyderabad-based Mandava Holdings (Mandava Prabhakara Rao, Chairman) might use a part of the fresh fund raising to provide a part exit to global private equity major Blackstone, which has invested Rs 250 crore in Nuziveedu Seeds. Mandava Holdings, the Rs 5,500-crore parent company of Nuziveedu Seeds - one of the top Bt-cotton producers in India - is understood to be gearing up to raise as much as Rs 800 crore. Hyderabad-based Mandava Holdings, which straddles businesses across power, textiles, sugar and infrastructure, besides cotton and seeds, might use a part of the fresh fund raising to provide a part exit to global private equity major Blackstone, which has invested Rs 250 crore in Nuziveedu Seeds. Mandava Holdings will also be using a part of the funds to settle its Rs 700-crore debt repayment, which will be due in March 2015. Tummala Nageswara Rao is set to join in TRS offered ministerial berth in the Cabinet

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Telangana, senior leader and former minister Tummala Nageswar Rao on Saturday resigned from the party amid speculation that he might join the ruling TRS along with a few senior Kamma leaders Muvva Vijaya Babu, Chairman DCCB - Khammam and others. "I have resigned from TDP. I cannot tell reasons now. I am not well. I cannot speak much," he said. Tummala, however, confirmed he was in touch with TRS leaders. "They (TRS) leaders are talking to me. I have not initiated the talks," he said when asked about his political future. A close aide of Tummala, who hails from Khammam district, said the resignation letter was sent to TDP office by fax. Accordt ing  t o sources, Tummala has been offered ministerial berth in K. Andhra Pradesh gets new capital in Vijayawada region

The city of Vijayawada was on Thursdsy named the new capital of Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu told the assembly that the government has decided to "locate the capital at central place of the state around Vijayawada". Naidu said the decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting September 1.  "Andhra Pradesh capital to be centrally located around Vijayawada. Will do justice to every city through decentralised development," Naidu tweeted. The naming of a new capital for Andhra Pradesh was due on Tuesday but Naidu had junked his plans of announcing the name due to "auspicious" reasons. So the naming was revealed on Dashami which falls on Thursday. There was speculation that the government would declare the state capital between Vijayawada and Guntur. U.S. Postal Service to issue Akkineni Nageswara Rao stamp

Legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao will be the first Indian actor to be honored with a postage stamp by the U.S. Post Service (USPS). The Akkineni Foundation of America (AFA) has said that the stamp will be issued on the birth anniversary of Nageshwara Rao, who died of cancer early this year. A special release ceremony is being planned by AFA on September 20 in Dallas, Texas. The AFA is also planning to release the stamp in India on December 17 at the first International Akkineni Awards Ceremony being planned at ANR College, Gudivada in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. ANR,  who died on January 22 this year , has acted in over 255 films in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. A majority of his films were both commercial and critical successes. Apart from being a movie star, ANR was a prolific writer. His final movie project was ‘Manam’, which saw three generations of the Akkineni family including himself, his son Nagarjuna and grandsons Naga Chaitanya, Akhil in it. The movie is
