Arvind Movva included in the list of 33 ASC Industry Leaders Under 40

Arvind Movva is the only Indian American doctor included in the list of 33 Ambulatory Surgery Center Industry leaders who — despite their continued success, far-reaching influence and deep knowledge of the industry — have yet to reach age 40. Arvind Movva, MD (35). Dr. Movva is currently CEO of Heartland Clinic, Valley View Anesthesia and Regional SurgiCenter, an eight-OR multi-specialty ASC in Illinois. He also practices as a gastroenterologist and serves as co-founder and consultant with Movva Medical Consulting. Dr. Movva joined Gastroenterology Consultants upon completion of his fellowship at the Medical College of Georgia in 2010. He offers a full range of gastroenterology care, including ERCP/EUS, hemorrhoidal banding and a cure for Barrett's Esophagus. Dr. Movva received his MD from The Chicago Medical School and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago.  

K V Chowdary appointed CBDT member

Senior Income Tax officer Kosaraju Veeraiah Chowdary was today appointed member of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in the Finance Ministry. K. V. Chowdary is an officer of the Indian Revenue Service. With a Masters degree in Mathematics from Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, he joined the IRS in 1978 through the Civil Services Examination, he was till now serving as the Director General (Investigations) in the national capital and was heading a number of high-profile I-T probes including the 2G spectrum allocation case and the HSBC Geneva taxpayers list. With his appointment, the CBDT will function with full strength. It had a few vacancies for some time. The CBDT has six members apart from the Chairman and is the apex body for policy and administrative issues related to direct taxes and the Income Tax department. For six years from 1999, Lingamaneni Maruti Sankar , with a B.E. and an MBA from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, was working at VisualSoft (sold to Megasoft later) in the product delivery and development team. After three days of competition, champions were crowned in 13 different age divisions on last Saturday, seven in the boys’ field and six in the girls’ field, of the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship. Playing at nine different courses in the area, the tournament brought more than 1,200 players from 39 countries to Moore County for the seventh consecutive year . The world championship had its share of highlights, starting with the opening ceremony that featured the parade of nations held in Pinehurst last Tuesday. Badminton referee Vemuri Sudhakar has the distinction of officiating in three consecutive Olympics (1992, 1996 and 2000) He made a mark in the Olympics even before the likes of Gopichand, Saina Nehwal. But, with a difference. Vemuri Sudhakar (62) is the proud recipient of commemorative medallions for officiating in three consecutive Olympics (1992, 1996 and 2000). And, this Hyderabadi still happens to be the only Indian to achieve this rare feat in badminton. BANGALORE: This 21-year-old Bangalore-based Srikar Gullapalli currently at Colgate University , New York , has a passion — to 'shudhify ' (cleanse) the corrupt system in his home town. During his summer holidays this year, Srikar Gullapalli interviewed the aam janata at the offices of BBMP, BDA, sub-registrar , RTO as well as police stations and government hospitals. He found that 33.38% of those surveyed were not satisfied with service, 37.98% were asked to pay a bribe, 38.61% used a middleman to work done and 15% felt threatened. S African appoints Pamela Naidoo as Geology Society head

Johannesburg August 01, 2012: A veteran Indian-origin geologist has been appointed as the new president of the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA). Pamela Naidoo , the country manager for exploration at international mining giant Rio Tinto, took over the reins of the GSSA, which was established in 1895, and is one of the oldest and largest societies of its kind in Africa. Naidoo has been a member of the Society for more than a decade and served as its vice-president on the management committee for five years. The Society promotes the study of the earth sciences, facilitates the professional development of its members, and advances the use of geoscience in the academic, professional, and public sectors.
