Kakarla Narayan Karthikeyan hopes for F-1 comeback

New Delhi - 20, December: Narain Karthikeyan is dreaming again of taking part in the Formula 1 championship after winning his first A1 GP race in Zhuhai, China. “I think this is the dream time for Indian motor sport and it required right moves by the right people to put everything together,” said Karthikeyan, during his felicitation here on Thursday. The win in Zhuhai served as a consolation for the Indian racing champion after his F-1 team Williams sacked him from his test driver position. “The victory has come at a very important time for me. This will help me plan for the future,” said Karthikeyan, expressing his desire to race in the F-1 again. “There is still time for me and I hope it will happen sooner rather than later.” First F-1 driver The 30-year-old Karthikeyan became India’s first F-1 driver in 2005 when he signed for the now-defunct Jordan. Jayaprakash Narayan flays proposed panel for BCs

Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan on Thursday criticised the State government’s decision to appoint a commission to go into the inclusion of Kapus and 17 other castes among BCs as an attempt to derive “short-term political gains”. Addressing a press conference here, he said the decision was taken in view of the changing political situation in the State and expressed fears that it would trigger caste disputes like the ones witnessed between Malas and Madigas in Andhra Pradesh and Gujjars and Meenas in Rajasthan. He said there was indeed backwardness and deprivation among Kapus and for long they had demanded that they be included among BCS. But the timing and manner of the decision made it clear that the government was motivated not by a genuine desire to help those suffering from discrimination. He said that several disadvantaged communities have genuine grievances about their n

Narain presents India maiden A1 victory

- F1 still an unfinished business for me and I’ll be back, says ace driver Narain Karthikeyan Zhuhai (China): Narain Karthikeyan scorched the Zhuhai International Circuit as Team India zipped to their first A1 GP victory by winning the feature race here on Sunday. Karthikeyan took the circuit by storm and raced to the chequered flag, surviving a late charge from New Zealand and South Africa. The Indian clocked 1:08'30.759 to finish 0.502 seconds ahead of Jonny Reid of New Zealand. India thus became the 14th nation to record a win in A1 GP. Karthikeyan said the victory was a morale booster both for him and the team and felt winning the race was always a possibility since he had qualified third. “Being among the top three on the starting grid, we always had a reasonable chance to win. In the last three races we struggled because we could not qualify better. Pace was nev

Narain Karthikeyan won the feature race in Zuhai China today, 16-December Having secured the best qualifying position ever in the A1 series for Team India, Narain Karthikeyan (Kakarla Kumar Ram Narain Karthikeyan is a Kamma from Coimbatore) had something special under his sleeve. So I decided to watch the race online. Do not ask me why, but I caught only the last 15 laps of the feature race, with Team New Zealand hunting Narain down lap after lap. With only about a half a second gap, tires wearing out and brake fade at its worst, Jonny Reid was waiting for Narain to make a mistake, but from what I understand two great pit stops and some sensible driving meant that Team India coasted home to its first victory. And yes, the Indian national anthem was played for the first time in A1GP. Karthikeyan was excited and happy. Team India’s manager Mr. Setna was overcome with emotion. An amazing achievement by the team and Narain. A few more wins like this should put him into the limelight he
